After making an impression during the 2022 NFL season and giving the eventual Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs all they could handle in the NFL playoffs, the Jacksonville Jaguars were one of the more hyped teams in the NFL offseason.
The expectation was that Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars would take the next step in the 2023 NFL season, with the team stacked offensively, especially after the addition of wide receiver Calvin Ridley.
Although Lawrence and company got off to a good start with a win over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1, the game the team had circled on the schedule was the rematch with the Chiefs in Week 2.
Ironically, the one game that everyone thought was going to be a shootout in Week 2 turned out to be the complete opposite, with both teams struggling offensively on Sunday.
Ultimately, turnovers and penalties ended up telling the tale on Sunday, as the Jaguars fell to the Chiefs in Week 2, 17-9.
After the loss to the Chiefs, Lawrence spoke to the media and expressed his frustration following what he called an “embarrassing” loss via Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network.
Trevor Lawrence: “It was just a sloppy game… We’re a better team than that. It’s kind of embarrassing.”

Even though the team didn’t play well on Sunday, the Jaguars are still a very promising young team that can make some noise in 2023, with Jacksonville still considered to be a force to be reckoned with in the AFC.
In Week 3, the Jaguars will host rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud and the Houston Texans in a game Jacksonville should dominate from start to finish, which might be a great way for this team to bounce back.
