The Washington Commanders got off to a promising start to the season, with Sam Howell looking more than ready to be their QB of the future.
Unfortunately, they — and especially him — were unable to build off that momentum they had with the 2-0 start to the season when they hosted the Buffalo Bills last week.
Howell had the worst performance of his young career yet, taking nine sacks and throwing four interceptions, all while competing just 19 of 29 passes for 179 yards and no touchdowns.
When asked about that performance, the UNC product took the blame and claimed that the organization and his teammates deserve better things from him (via ProFootballTalk).

Howell stated that he wouldn’t make any excuses for himself and vowed to be better.
The second-year pro also admitted that last season’s win at Philadelphia was one of the highlights of the year, even if he was an unused backup.
Needless to say, the Commanders have had the upcoming game marked on their calendars for quite a while, as it’ll be the perfect opportunity to prove how close they are to the biggest powerhouse in the division.
Unfortunately for Howell, that’s going to be a bit of an uphill battle.
The Eagles defense is fairly superior to that of Buffalo, and while their offense hasn’t fully clicked yet, they’re still 3-0.
Divisional matchups are often a toss-up and anything could happen.
But if the Commanders want to stand a chance, their new QB must put that terrible performance behind him right away.
