The New Orleans Saints have had a solid start to the 2023 NFL season, with the team winning two out of their first three games.
Derek Carr and company were able to get the best of the Tennessee Titans and Carolina Panthers in consecutive games before suffering their first loss against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.
The Saints lost by one point to the Packers, with Green Bay scoring all 18 of their points in the fourth quarter and New Orleans seemingly being helpless to fight back with Carr being knocked out of the game due to injury.
The primary concern for the Saints moving forward is the health of Carr, who might miss a few games moving forward with a shoulder injury.
Along with the concern about Carr’s health moving forward, the team made an interesting move by releasing wide receiver Tre’Quan Smith from injured reserve, according to ESPN’s Field Yates.
The Saints have released WR Tre’Quan Smith from IR. He’s now a free agent.

The former third-round pick spent the last five years of his NFL career with the Saints after the team selected him with the No. 91 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft out of Central Florida.
Despite a promising two first seasons in New Orleans, Smith’s production has declined every year leading up to his release on Tuesday.
During his stint with the Saints, Smith caught 131 passes for 1,764 yards and 18 touchdowns in 66 games.
Now that Smith is a free agent, there’s a decent chance he’ll find another home in the NFL, whether on an active roster or on a practice squad.
