Derek Carr was Josh McDaniels’ and the Las Vegas Raiders’ scapegoat for last year’s miscues.
While not a superstar, it was hard to blame him for how things went down last season, as he wasn’t in charge of making decisions and often dealt with a subpar supporting cast.
Whatever the case, the Raiders didn’t get much worse or better at the quarterback position when they signed Jimmy Garoppolo.
However, he did come with way more red flags than Carr, as he’s dealt with multiple ailments throughout the course of his career, and he was coming off a shoulder injury that pretty much prevented the San Francisco 49ers from being able to trade him.
Garoppolo then suffered a foot injury that put his deal with the Raiders in jeopardy, and now that he’s back to full strength, his coach claims he’ll have no limitations whatsoever during training camp, according to ESPN’s Paul Gutierrez.
#Raiders coach Josh McDaniels: Says there are NO restrictions on QB Jimmy Garoppolo to start camp. But will handle him as they would ANY player coming in off surgery/injury.

Of course, one understands why McDaniels and the Raiders would rush to make a run at Garoppolo.
Jimmy G and he go a long way back to their days together with the New England Patriots, and it would be easier to get him up to speed with his system and offense.
Garoppolo isn’t a superstar by any means, but he’s a proven and capable quarterback that has earned the right to be a starter in the right situation.
But injuries will always be a part of the equation with him, so maybe they would be better off taking things slowly with him this time around.
