The 2023 season was full of breakout players on both sides of the ball.
Some were rookies who turned into stars – like Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua – while others were players who were finally given bigger opportunities and proved up to the task of leading their respective teams.
With all that in mind, Pro Football Focus picked their breakout player of the year: Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love.

Love took over for Aaron Rodgers after two seasons as the Packers’ backup and led Green Bay to the postseason in his first season as the starting quarterback.
There were some bumps along the way, but Love found his footing in the second half of the season and helped the Packers win their final three games of the regular season to secure the NFC’s final playoff spot.
His passing yards and passing touchdowns ranked top-10 in the NFL and he only threw 11 interceptions on the year.
Love did all this with a relatively young roster of pass-catchers that included two second-year wide receivers, two rookie wide receivers, and two rookie tight ends.
Green Bay now heads to Dallas to take on the No. 2-seeded Cowboys against the coach who current Packers head coach Matt LaFleur replaced: Mike McCarthy.
The matchup is formidable on its own, but Love has proven to be one of the better quarterbacks in the league from a passing perspective and now gets his first crack at postseason action in his first year as the full-time starter.
