The defending NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles are 3-0, but many feel they aren’t playing well, at least according to their standards.
They rank just 18th in passing touchdowns and 23rd in passing yards so far this season, and some are wondering why they don’t look as potent offensively as they did last season.
Per Ed Werder, head coach Nick Sirianni says that their offense is balanced right now and that they’re relying on their running game.

Last season, Philly was one of the most balanced and well-rounded teams around, and they were able to beat opponents either in the air or on the ground.
After two so-so victories to start the 2023 season, they started to perk up in Week 3, defeating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 25-11, and although wide receiver A.J. Brown had 131 yards, it was indeed their running game that did lots of damage.
D’Andre Swift, their new starting running back, put up 130 rushing yards, while quarterback Jalen Hurts added 28 yards and a touchdown.
Hurts struggled with his passing, completing only 23 of 37 attempts and throwing two interceptions and one touchdown pass, and on the season, his passer rating is just 84.5.
Some have been wondering if the Eagles are suffering from the type of complacency and boredom that can afflict teams coming off a Super Bowl appearance.
Their next three games will be relatively easy, as they will face the Washington Commanders, Los Angeles Rams, and New York Jets, but in Week 7, they will play the explosive Miami Dolphins, and two weeks later, they will host the Dallas Cowboys.
After a bye in Week 10, Philly will go up against the Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills, San Francisco 49ers, and the Cowboys again in succession.
If the Eagles are complacent and bored right now, they won’t have any excuse to feel that way pretty soon.
