The Las Vegas Raiders chose to go into the 2023 NFL season with veteran quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo as the team’s starter after parting ways with longtime starter Derek Carr, who ultimately signed with the New Orleans Saints over the summer.
Although Garoppolo has proven to be a winner everywhere he’s played during his NFL career thus far, the veteran has dealt with numerous injuries over the course of his career, which was a major concern for the Raiders.
After a disappointing loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 3, Garoppolo, who threw three interceptions in the loss, suffered what was thought to be a concussion.
On Monday, Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels confirmed that Garoppolo is in the league’s concussion protocol, according to Anthony Galaviz of The Fresno Bee.

In Week 4, the Raiders will go on the road to face the division-rival Los Angeles Chargers in what will be an important game for the silver and black, as McDaniels and company will want to bounce back from this loss and make an impression with a win over Justin Herbert’s squad at SoFi Stadium.
If Garoppolo can’t go for Week 4 against the Chargers, the Raiders will likely turn to veteran backup Brian Hoyer while activating rookie Aidan O’Connell.
Although O’Connell got a lot of buzz during the NFL preseason, with Raiders fans becoming enamored with him, McDaniels will likely go with Hoyer as his starter against Los Angeles unless things get out of control during the game, resulting in a switch to the rookie.
