The New York Jets forcibly changed their script after Week 1 of the 2023 NFL season.
Initially, they had Aaron Rodgers as the starting quarterback, while Zach Wilson was his backup.
But in a cruel twist of fate, the four-time NFL Most Valuable Player suffered an Achilles tear that entails a lengthy recovery period.
That unfortunate incident left Wilson with no choice but to become the leading man again.
His first stint as the Jets starter didn’t unfold as planned.
As Wilson gets another opportunity, he will have a qualified mentor who can teach him about the ins and outs of football’s most important position.
NFL Network National Insider Ian Rapoport tweeted, “Aaron Rodgers has been FaceTiming Zach Wilson, staying in touch with his protege. Wilson has a renewed confidence.”

Rodgers’ vast experience as an NFL quarterback will help prepare the former BYU standout for the heavy load ahead.
With the Super Bowl XLV winner gone, the Jets’ playoff chances look gloomy unless Wilson puts the lessons he learned into practice.
However, they still have talented players around the young quarterback like Garrett Wilson, Allen Lazard, Breece Hall, and Dalvin Cook.
They also have a defensive unit that can profoundly impact games, thanks to Quinnen Williams and Sauce Gardner.
If those elements click, the Jets can snap their 12-season playoff drought.
