The New England Patriots will no longer have Bill Belichick as their coach next season.
If that sounds crazy, that’s because it is crazy.
Belichick and the Patriots were a match made in heaven, a marriage that was supposed to end with the legendary coach walking away as the winningest coach in NFL history, perhaps even with another Vince Lombardi trophy under his belt.
But all things eventually come to an end, and this ruthless business has seen people make tough and questionable decisions year in and year out.
Belichick had already outstayed his welcome in Foxboro, as the team didn’t find success without Tom Brady, and it became evident that they needed a major shakeup from top to bottom.
Nonetheless, Belichick’s numbers in charge of the organization will never be topped, as pointed out by Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated.
Over Bill Belichick’s 24 years, the @Patriots …
• Went 296-133.• Won 30 playoff games.• Won 17 AFC East titles.• Won 9 AFC championships.• Won 6 Super Bowls.
GOAT gets way overused. It’s justified here.

During his 24-year tenure with the team, Belichick went 296-133 with them (30-12 in the playoffs).
He won 17 divisional titles and nine AFC Championships and hoisted the Vince Lombardi trophy six times.
Of course, people might argue that he found most of his success with Tom Brady, and that’s a valid point.
But he was the architect behind some of the most dominant defenses in NFL history, and it’s hard to think of a better, savvier tactician than him.
At the end of the day, they both made each other great and successful, and there’s just no way to take anything away from what he accomplished in the National Football League.
