The Seattle Seahawks made a big move Wednesday after reportedly moving on from head coach Pete Carroll after 14 seasons with the team.
Carroll is expected to be “out” as the Seahawks head coach, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, but could remain in the organization.
This comes after the Seahawks barely missed the playoffs for the second time in three years.
Fans were, unsurprisingly, shocked by the news after how well Carroll coached the team during his decade-plus tenure with the club.

He’s clearly moving up in the organization. He’s not being fired lol

Everyone wanted to put all of the blame on Geno Smith this year. But there’s no excuse for having so much talent and failing like the Seahawks did this season.
Time for a fresh face & leader of the Seahawks

What this means, more than anything, is that the Seahawks are now in contention for a fresh new head coach to lead their team.
There are several solid candidates out there who may want to join an organization with a recent history of winning under Carroll’s direction.
However, it will be interesting to see where Carroll lands – either in a front office role with the team or elsewhere.
At 72, he was the oldest head coach in the NFL this past season and would remain so if he joined another club.
The Seahawks have a solid roster as well with Geno Smith at quarterback, two young running backs in Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet, and a great trio of pass-catchers in D.K. Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
Whoever inherits this team won’t have much personnel work to do, but they’ll have to contend in the ultra-competitive NFC West with the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams.
Carroll’s departure, though, is a sign that the team is thinking more long-term at coaching and would prefer to get out ahead of finding his replacement now rather than years down the line.
