Longevity in the NFL can be fleeting, especially for teams with inexperienced rosters who manage to catch lightning in a bottle for a season or two.
This becomes even more apparent in the postseason when the best of the best square off for a shot at a Lombardi Trophy.
The Detroit Lions immediately became one of the best teams in the NFL this season thanks to a good front office, quality coaching, and a talented collection of skill position players, but none had been tested in the playoffs until this year.
The Lions took down the Los Angeles Rams in a gritty and tight win Sunday night that proved they have staying power in the NFL, per FOX Sports analyst Colin Cowherd.
“Unlike Dallas and Miami, they’re not a fraud. They’re imperfect, but they’re not a fraud,” Cowherd said. ” … They’re going be around for a long time because everybody has a chip on their shoulder, everybody was kind of ignored, and that doesn’t go away.”

Cowherd noted that the Lions front office used draft capital from its huge Matthew Stafford trade in 2021 to select quality young contributors on offense like running back Jahmyr Gibbs, wide receiver Jameson Williams, and tight end Sam LaPorta.
Detroit also built a roster around the Rams’ castoff quarterback, Jared Goff, who was sent to the Lions in the Stafford trade.
Dan Campbell’s inspired coaching also sparked the Lions’ renaissance as he rallied the team around itself after years as one of the worst clubs in the NFL.
Detroit will remain at home in the Divisional round with a matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles or Tampa Bay Buccaneers on deck.
