This year’s Super Bowl ended up being the matchup that many expected coming into the game.
While the first half might have been a bit slow, the second half provided many theatrics, including the second overtime game in Super Bowl history.
The Kansas City Chiefs might have finished the game as the victor, but it was still a performance the San Francisco 49ers can hang their hats on.
Brock Purdy largely played mistake-free football in his first career Super Bowl, but it still wasn’t enough to overpower the Chiefs.
Christian McCaffrey spoke about the loss in a postgame interview.
It ultimately came down to the fact that, in McCaffrey’s words, “We just beat ourselves.”

He believes that when it came down to it, the 49ers couldn’t capitalize in the biggest moments, costing them the game.
This was on full display when the 49ers lined up for what appeared to be a routine extra point in the second half.
If Jake Moody had made the kick, they would have been up four points, putting themselves in a position to force the Chiefs to score a touchdown to take the lead.
However, the Chiefs found a way to block the kick, keeping themselves a field goal away from tying the game.
There were several other moments during the game when the 49ers put themselves in a bad position, including their botched play on a punt.
One of the 49ers players had the ball touch his leg, which ended up in the hands of a Chiefs player, setting them up for points.
