The Houston Texans may have started the 2023 NFL season 0-2, but they’re already seeing some returns on their rookie quarterback.
C.J. Stroud had a rough debut in Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens, but looked much more comfortable in the Week 2 loss to the Indianapolis Colts.
Stroud was well-regarded for his accuracy and throwing arm in college and that was on full display against Indianapolis as he was able to find his receivers downfield for chunk gains.
The rookie showed considerable chemistry with Nico Collins who recorded seven receptions for 146 yards and a touchdown.
Stroud finished the afternoon completing 30 of his 47 pass attempts for 384 yards and two touchdowns, an impressive showing in just his second NFL game.
In fact, Stroud managed to pass Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields in one stat via Shane P. Hallam of Draft Countdown.

Unlike Stroud, Fields has done most of his damage with his legs as he’s one of the most proficient running quarterbacks in the league.
Stroud is able to work out of structure as well, though his preferred way of carving up a defense is through the air.
It might be unfair to compare the two young signal callers because their games are so different, but it does illustrate just how well Stroud’s been able to adapt to the professional level so quickly.
Houston may not be able to win many games this season because of how young the roster is, but the organization has to be thrilled with how fast Stroud is seemingly learning from week to week.
