The Los Angeles Rams had a terrible title defense last season, as they went 5-12 and missed the playoffs after dealing with several injuries to key players.
With Cooper Kupp and Matthew Stafford, among others, looking to bounce back with a strong and healthy 2023 campaign, there is optimism that the team will at least make the playoffs this year.
But Jason McIntyre says that the Rams are more likely to finish with one of the NFL’s worst records and have a shot at drafting University of Southern California quarterback Caleb Williams.
"I think they're closer to being in the Caleb Williams mix than the playoffs."

McIntyre cited the lack of impact players on defense as perhaps the biggest reason why he thinks they will struggle so much this season.
When Los Angeles won the Super Bowl to end the 2021 campaign, they had Aaron Donald at defensive tackle, Von Miller, and Jalen Ramsey in the secondary.
But Miller is now with the Buffalo Bills while Ramsey was traded to the Miami Dolphins, leaving Donald by his lonesome.
According to McIntyre, the Rams’ offensive line will also contribute to their lack of success in 2023.
That offensive line struggled mightily last season, and it led to the Rams allowing the third-most sacks in the NFL.
If there is a saving grace for them, it’s the fact that the NFC lacks depth, unlike the AFC, which is shaping up to be a battle.
The San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys, and the defending conference champion Philadelphia Eagles are the only contenders in the NFC, and just about everyone else isn’t an iron-clad lock to make the playoffs, which could keep the window slightly ajar for L.A.
