The Kansas City Chiefs were severely undermanned in their season opener.
They didn’t have star TE Travis Kelce because of a hyperextended knee, but they were missing an even more important — or at least bigger — piece on the other side of the field.
So, now that Chris Jones has ended his holdout and has been back on the field for the past two weeks, former NFL star Jason McCourty believes he’s been the catalyst behind their defensive turnaround as a whole.
McCourty stated that having your best player by your side gives the defense a whole new feeling, which is why guys feel more confident about making plays and taking risks, knowing that Jones will be there as an insurance policy (via Sunday Night Football on NBC).

Truth be told, Jones is one of the most impactful defenders in the league, so this makes plenty of sense.
Players can now be way more aggressive and gamble a little because of his presence, as he forces the rival offense to change everything and gameplan for him.
Jones was one of the frontrunners to win NFL Defensive Player of the Year last season, and he vowed to be even better this year.
So far, so good for him after securing a very lucrative one-year contract with the organization.
Steve Spagnuolo and Andy Reid now need to make sure that he doesn’t threaten to leave again, and the the Chiefs will need to pay him as much money as he wants in the offseason.
