Last night’s Super Bowl went into overtime, the second such occurrence in history.
The San Francisco 49ers fought hard, but in the end, the Kansas City Chiefs emerged as the victors.
While this was another big win for the Chiefs, there have been a few comments made from 49ers players that have been concerning to many of their fans.
As Ari Meriov recently shared in a video, Kyle Juszczyk indicated that the new overtime rules were something he was unaware of.
The 49ers elected to get the ball first, which led to them kicking a field goal and giving the Chiefs a chance to win the game with a touchdown.
When asked about the team’s decision, Juszczyk said, “I assumed you just want the ball because you score a touchdown and win.”
Here’s #49ers FB Kyle Juszczyk admitting he wasn’t aware of the new overtime rules:

While this was the case in the past, Juszczyk’s thinking does not align with the league’s new overtime rules.
It’s fitting that the first year the new overtime rules were in place, the game went into overtime for the second time in the Super Bowl era.
Juszczyk wasn’t the only 49ers player to admittedly not know the updated rules.
This is something that has confused many fans and analysts, as it is seemingly the team’s job to educate their players on what is going on with any new rules or regulations.
Not knowing the rules could have impacted the 49ers’ decision to get the ball first in overtime, which might have changed the entire outcome of this game.
