The Golden State Warriors shocked the NBA world early in the offseason by making a blockbuster trade that was a little confusing, considering the compensation the storied franchise was getting in return.
After an in-practice fight before the season and a less-than-stellar performance during the 2022-23 campaign, the Warriors chose to move on from guard Jordan Poole by shipping him to the Washington Wizards in exchange for seasoned veteran Chris Paul.
The consensus for making the move seemed to be financial and the fact they favored keeping Draymond Green over having Poole in San Francisco for the next few years on a lucrative long-term deal.
Although Poole is a talented scorer, the 24-year-old isn’t much else as he became a liability on defense and took too many questionable shots on the offensive end, especially considering he’s playing with two of the best shooters of all time in Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.
Apparently, according to NBC Sports Bay Area via NBA Central, NBA executives around the league were confused by the move the Warriors made and didn’t see how it made sense for the future of the franchise.
NBA executives from other teams in the league didn't comprehend Golden State's justification for moving Jordan Poole for an older player

Ultimately, it seems to come down to the fact that Poole didn’t fit the mold in San Francisco, and that was never more apparent than during the NBA playoffs.
With Poole under contract for a few more years at a high price, the front office made a judgment call and decided to bring in a hungry and ringless veteran hoping to win a title before he calls it a career in the NBA.
Even though there’s been tension between Paul and the Warriors stars over the years, he’s mature enough to put bad blood aside and focus on winning on a team that has done a lot of that over the last decade.
