During the Western Conference semifinals against the Los Angeles Lakers, it was clear that the Golden State Warriors were too small in the frontcourt.
The Warriors had no answer for Anthony Davis, who dominated them on both ends of the floor and the defending champions were eventually eliminated in six games.
Heading into the 2023-24 NBA season, Golden State figures to be in the playoff mix again though the roster largely has the same holes in it that it did last year.
Draymond Green and Kevon Looney remain the stalwarts in the Warriors frontcourt and the team did draft Trayce Jackson-Davis in the second round of the 2023 NBA Draft.
They also managed to sign Dario Saric in free agency, giving them another versatile forward who can masquerade at center.
Golden State has been linked to Dwight Howard as a potential landing spot for the veteran, but it sounds like they’re bringing him in just as due diligence and not as an official move, per Kendra Andrews of ESPN via ClutchPoints.
“I’m told that the Warriors are looking at this just as another workout, just another guy they’re bringing in to get a look at… That doesn’t mean he is a member of the team,” Andrews said.

Howard spent last season overseas in Taiwan as he couldn’t find an NBA team to sign with, but the big man could be a serviceable depth option for a squad like the Warriors.
The former All-Star still provides some rebounding and shot-blocking, though he is far past his prime.
Without any other reported suitors, Howard could once again find himself waiting for a call if it doesn’t work out with Golden State.
He has yet to declare he is retiring, so this could very well be Howard’s last shot of playing in the league.
