The writing appears to be on the wall for the Milwaukee Bucks, with superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo potentially heading into his last season with the team that drafted him.
The two-time NBA MVP let it be known that if he’s not on the same page with his Bucks teammates when it comes time for him to make a decision on his future, he’ll head elsewhere to improve his chances of winning another title, which puts the franchise is an interesting situation heading into the 2023-24 campaign.
With Antetokounmpo basically drawing a line in the sand ahead of next season, it would be wise for the Bucks brass to start planning for a future without the superstar, as the odds are against the team keeping him on a long-term basis.
That said, Zach Lowe of ESPN believes the Bucks will trade Antetokounmpo to prevent losing him for nothing, as he said on The Lowe Post Podcast.
As Lowe suggested, Antetokounmpo has actually done the Bucks a favor in coming out with these comments about his future plans.
The real question now is whether Antetokounmpo gets traded before the NBA trade deadline in February or after the upcoming season.
Obviously, it will all depend on the success of the team during the 2023-24 campaign because if the team is struggling heading toward the trade deadline, it would make sense to try and move him, as the team will have no shortage of suitors.
Needless to say, things will get interesting moving forward for the Bucks as the franchise could be on the cusp of a significant change and a potentially lengthy rebuilding process.
