For months, it felt like the Portland Trail Blazers were going to trade Damian Lillard to the Miami Heat but instead, the Milwaukee Bucks swooped in and acquired the superstar in a three-team deal with the Phoenix Suns.
The Bucks were forced to ship out Jrue Holiday and draft assets, but it was worth the cost as they were able to land Lillard and pair him with Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Milwaukee must have felt pressure to make a move after losing in the first round of the 2023 NBA Playoffs and Antetokounmpo’s recent comments about not signing a long-term extension.
Getting Lillard is a good way to assure Antetokounmpo that the organization is serious about winning and the Bucks are now considered even more dangerous come the postseason.
The Antetokounmpo-Lillard pairing is almost a perfect fit on paper as the Milwaukee All-Star can dominate the paint while Lillard torches defenses from the outside.
The Bucks have a marquee Christmas Day matchup with the New York Knicks and Josh Hart extended an invitation to Lillard via his Twitter account.

Hart and Lillard were teammates on the Blazers for a year before the former got sent to the Knicks.
It’s a funny invitation from Hart given that it came shortly after the trade news broke, but it does reinforce the reality that Lillard is heading to Milwaukee.
The top of the Eastern Conference was already starting to feel crowded, but the Bucks decided to go all-in and raise the ceiling of their team and increase their chances of winning another title.
