We are still months away from the next NBA season but that doesn’t mean it’s too soon for speculation about it.
There are many people who are already betting on which team will make it all the way to the Finals even though a single game hasn’t been played yet.
Kendrick Perkins got in on that action on ESPN, listing his top five candidates for the 2023-24 MVP trophy.
In Perkin’s fifth and fourth spots are De’Aaron Fox of the Sacramento Kings and Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics.
Following those two stars, Perkins selected current Finals MVP Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets (“the greatest center to ever touch the ball, skill-wise”) and Anthony Davis of the Los Angeles Lakers.
Finally, Perkins said that Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks is the top candidate for next season’s MVP trophy.

That list is a who’s who of the biggest names in the league right now.
It wouldn’t be surprising to see any of these men claim the prize.
It would be the second MVP for Antetokounmpo and the third for Jokic, while Fox, Tatum, and Davis would be receiving their first honor.
Although a lot of people are talking about the players who made the list, many others are talking about one who didn’t: Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers.
Embiid is the reigning MVP so one would imagine he’d at least be in the running to win it again.
For whatever reason, Perkins didn’t even put him as a top-five prospect.
Sixers fans will surely take issue with the absence of Embiid, especially as he just had one of his best seasons ever.
Will Perkins be right with his prediction?
Will any of these men take home the top prize when the next season comes to an end?
