If the Philadelphia 76ers didn’t have enough drama on their plate with James Harden’s situation, it now seems like Joel Embiid is also going through something.
According to a report by Stephen Time (via Legion Hoops), the French basketball federation has set an October 10 deadline for him to decide whether he wants to play for them in the upcoming Olympics or not.

Embiid is reportedly eligible to play for France, Cameroon, or even the U.S., and he has yet to make a commitment to one team.
Needless to say, he’d be a prime addition to every single team he decides to play for.
While his impact could be bigger for Cameroon next to Pascal Siakam, his best chance to win the gold medal would obviously come with the United States, especially considering they don’t have anyone with his current profile other than Anthony Davis.
As for France, his presence would pretty much mean they won’t count on Rudy Gobert anymore, which would be far from a surprise after the way he struggled in the FIBA Basketball World Cup.
Even so, Gobert has given the French team a lot in his career, and maybe it wouldn’t be fair.
France will also have reigning No. 1 pick Victor Wembanyama on their roster for the Paris Olympics, so they could still do fine without Embiid.
Whatever the case, they don’t want to wait any longer before knowing what he intends to do, as they need to know which players are truly committed to help them bounce back.
