Damian Lillard’s situation with the Portland Trail Blazers isn’t new.
It’s not the first time an NBA superstar wants out of his team with multiple years left in his contract, nor it’ll be the last.
Likewise, it’s also not the first time that the team refused to trade him, and even more, this preferred destination.
However, it’s the first time that a player made it clear that he would only consider playing for one team, all but killing all potential deals for his services.
That’s why former NBA star Antonio Daniels believes it’s time Commissioner Adam Silver steps in and makes an example out of Lillard.
In his latest appearance on SiriusXM NBA Radio, Daniels stated that there’s no point in Silver warning Lillard and the Miami Heat against trying to force a trade if he’s not going to do anything when that actually happens.

Truth be told, this Lillard situation could set a dangerous precedent.
Getting stars to handpick their trade destinations is hurtful, as small market teams would never get the return they want and deserve for the players they drafted, developed, and got paid.
Lillard has given everything to the Blazers, and one could argue that they should do right by him.
But there’s a fine line between trying to help him out and just giving him away for a subpar trade package.
The Blazers also made Lillard one of the highest earners in the league, so they have every right to hold onto him until they get what they want for his contract.
