A statement released by the team said: “We are aware of an incident involving Cavaliers President of Basketball Operations Koby Altman. We are currently gathering more information and have no further comment at this time.”
Altman joined the team back in 2012 and worked his way up from the pro personnel department all the way to assistant general manager.
He took on the position of general manager in 2017 and then president of basketball operations in January 2022.
He currently is under contract with the team through the 2027-28 season.
Will his arrest change all of that and leave him out of a job?
The Cavaliers could choose to cut ties with Altman because of this legal problem or they could decide to suspend him and then keep him around.
If a player were to be charged like this, they would surely face some sort of repercussions and that will probably be true for Altman as well.
He is just one of the many important parts of the recent Cavaliers resurgence.
The team, now favored as one of the best in the East, has been hard at work retooling the roster and improving team culture and chemistry.
They are in the strongest position they have been in a long time but Altman might be on the sidelines for a while as the new season begins.
