The clock is ticking for the Portland Trail Blazers and Miami Heat.
All summer long, these two teams have been dancing around a potential Damian Lillard trade.
Lillard wants Miami, Miami wants Lillard, and Portland wants a lot – perhaps too much.
According to Brian Windhorst, via NBACentral, the Blazers want the Heat to “empty out all of their assets” for Lillard.
“They want the Heat to literally scrounge into every nook and cranny and produce everything they possibly can. The Heat don’t feel a need to do that,” Windhorst reports.

At this point, one wonders if the Blazers are realistically trying to make a deal happen.
The Heat have made offers and have shown what they are willing to give in order to acquire the superstar guard.
But the Blazers have repeatedly shot them down and have stuck to their imposing demands.
They are asking for just about everything possible from the Heat, even though they know the team won’t give it to them.
The Blazers have made it abundantly clear that they are in no rush to get any sort of deal done.
If they are able to somehow convince the Heat to move all of the assets they crave, then they will walk away happy.
But if the Heat continue to refuse all the way until the new season starts, the Blazers will just sit on Lillard and wait.
They feel they have the upper hand because they do.
It has become increasingly likely that Lillard will be with the Blazers at the start of 2023-24.
Unless Miami breaks down and gives the Blazers all they want or Portland lightens up with their demands, this deal isn’t moving forward.
