The NBA is becoming bigger with each passing day, and a clear representation of it is the big supermax extensions that players are signing now.
Players like Jaylen Brown, Anthony Edwards, and Tyrese Haliburton landed huge contracts earlier this summer.
But that’s not the end of the tide.
A new crop of superstars featuring Luka Doncic, De’Aaron Fox, and Shai-Gilgeous Alexander are already gearing up to sign even bigger contracts.
Luka Doncic could soon become the first player in NBA history to earn $70 million in a year, per Legion Hoops via ESPN analyst Bobby Marks on Twitter.

Eligible candidates for NBA supermax extensions and their estimated earnings:
Luka Doncic ($70M per year)Shai Gilgeous-Alexander ($64M per year)Jaren Jackson Jr. ($63M per year)De’Aaron Fox ($61M per year)Bam Adebayo ($61M per year)Jamal Murray ($60M per year)Brandon… pic.twitter.com/c5otQfulgC

Marks says Luka Doncic, Shai-Gilgeous Alexander, Jaren Jackson Jr., De’Aaron Fox, Bam Adebayo, Jamal Murray, Brandon Ingram, and Pascal Siakam are the eight candidates who could be supermax eligible after the 2023-24 NBA season.
If either of these players make the All-NBA team, win MVP, or the Defensive Player of the Year award, they can sign a supermax contract extension in 2024 or 2025.
Marks noted that each of the eight players has already, at one point in their respective careers, been selected to either the All-NBA team, won MVP, or won the DPOY award.
Moreover, Jayson Tatum has already become eligible to sign a supermax contract extension in the summer of 2024 after making it to the All-NBA team in the 2022-23 season.
All things considered, the amount of money that players will soon start to make will be very high, and the day when a player makes $100 million in a season doesn’t seem like a pipedream anymore.
