Just a couple of years ago, Golden State Warriors star Klay Thompson had some harsh words for Rodney McGruder.
During a 2021 game versus the Golden State Warriors, the then-Pistons guard had some words for forward Juan Toscano-Anderson, who was a member of the Warriors, and Thompson, who was out with an Achilles injury and commentating the game for NBC Sports Bay Area, said McGruder was mad he “might be out of the league soon.”

On Monday, per Shams Charania, McGruder was finalizing a deal to join Golden State and bolster their backcourt depth.
This could make for some awkward moments once training camp starts days from now between McGruder and Thompson.

McGruder is someone who may be able to space the floor for Thompson, Stephen Curry, and others.
He has a career 3-point accuracy of 36.0 percent, and last season he made 42.3 percent of his attempts from beyond the arc.
He will be entering his eighth season in the NBA after playing his first seven with the Pistons, Miami Heat, and Los Angeles Clippers.
McGruder originally went undrafted in 2013 after four years at Kansas State University, and he spent a year playing in Hungary and two seasons in the G League before the Heat called him up to the big leagues.
The Warriors still could use some size and beef up front, and to that end, they visited with veteran center Dwight Howard days ago, although they ultimately decided to pass on him.
They’re just 15 months removed from winning their fourth NBA championship of the Curry era, and they’re hoping to squeeze out one more ring from their aging core.
