With July soon coming to a close and the stretch run of the 2023 season nearly upon us, now is an important time to look at certain pennant races in each league.
In the National League, the Wild Card race has turned into a bit of a mess.
The race has become very competitive, with five teams tightly packed at the top and only three spots available for a postseason berth.
The Cincinnati Reds are at the top of the Wild Card race at the moment, leading by a half-game over the Arizona Diamondbacks, Miami Marlins, and San Francisco Giants, who are just a half-game ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies.
On Twitter, MLB insider Bob Nightengale noted just how wild the Wild Card race has become as we approach the final two months of the season.
There are now 5 teams in a virtual tie in the zany NL wild-card race, all with 47 losses after Arizona #Dbacks' 10-6 defeat to the #STLCards.NL WC StandingsCincinnati: 55-47Arizona: 54-47Miami: 54-47San Francisco: 54-47Philadelphia: 53-47

Things are getting very interesting in the Wild Card race.
After the Diamondbacks lost to the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday night, there are three teams tied for the final two Wild Card spots, with the Reds barely in front and the Phillies barely behind.
Another thing worth noting, however, is that it goes beyond the top five teams in the race.
The Chicago Cubs are heating up and have come to within five games of the final spot, while the San Diego Padres are just six back with two months to go.
The New York Mets also can’t be overlooked, as they sit seven games out.
The race has turned into somewhat of a madhouse as the trade deadline looms.
