The New York Yankees were officially eliminated from playoff contention on Sunday after losing to the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Now, everybody is paying attention to their final record: at 78-77, they are at risk of finishing with their first losing season since 1992.
Since their dynasty days in the late-1990s, the Yanks have missed the postseason a handful of times, the last one in 2016.
However, they haven’t been a sub-.500 team in 31 years.
As a result of the high expectations surrounding the roster before the season and their highly disappointing record, some people believe manager Aaron Boone is on the hot seat.
He might be, depending on what owner Hal Steinbrenner decides to do in the offseason after performing his evaluation of the season.
The skipper tries not to worry about that, though.
“Aaron Boone on managing the Yankees beyond 2023: ‘I don’t worry about it. It’s out of my hands. I’m completely comfortable with who I am and the things I can control. In my mind, I’m doing everything to head into the offseason prepared to put us in a better position to try and compete for a championship. That’s what the goal is, and until they take that away, that’s my focus,’” Yankees insider Bryan Hoch tweeted.

The 2023 season has been the Yankees’ worst since Boone took over as manager in 2018.
Injuries to some crucial players such as Aaron Judge, Anthony Rizzo, Giancarlo Stanton, Carlos Rodon and many others derailed their campaign, but their lack of quality depth was also an issue.
Boone doesn’t worry about what he can’t control, and thus is reportedly entering a key offseason with some peace of mind.
